TUJ Sumo Event
On a cloudy May Saturday, TUJ students had the rare opportunity to see the retirement ceremony of Ryoji Tamakasuga, during which his topknot was cut off! The 4-hour ceremony included sumo wrestling matches, taiko performances, singing, and other ceremonial performances by professional sumo wrestlers. Students headed to the Ryogoku Kokugikan in Sumida-ku for the event. Many students also made a side-trip to the Edo-Tokyo Museum right next door to learn more about Tokyo’s historical and architectural heritage.
